CampSight Photography—Going Beyond the Selfie

posted by on Feb 25, 2018

With their smartphones nearly always within reach and the persistent encouragement or compulsion to keep up their streaks or update their status, most teens are snapping pictures every day. The abundance and popularity of image-focused apps are a good sign that teens have something to say and want to share it with the world.

Our new 2-week CampSight Photography intensive is a great opportunity to take that photo.jpginterest and develop it into an art with the personal direction of world-renowned Israeli-American artist, Zion Ozeri. Using the customized curriculum he developed with the Jewish Lens—a program designed to engage students in learning about the values that are important in their Jewish communities—and Beit Hatfutsot (Museum of Jewish People), teens will enhance their technical and artistic skills with the camera.

Moving beyond Instagram filters, participants will focus on the quality of their photography and the content of their pictures. During explorations outside of camp, they’ll use their lenses to capture Jewish people, communities, and culture, which will help them gain a deeper understanding of their own Jewish identity.

At the conclusion of the intensive, teens will have gained a strong understanding of the photography process, including planning, execution, post-production, and exhibition planning. Following their own vision and with Ozeri’s guidance, they will create a body of work, a complete photography portfolio.

Outside of this master class in photography, teens get to enjoy the best of camp at Tel Yehudah, including music, sports, Israel education programs, Shabbat, and spending time with their friends.
